Getting an actual hacker space bootstrapped

We have a Space please help Open Space Aarhus bootstrap.

Low tech hacking

  • Varmluftsballon med tilhørende webside.

Fabbers

CNC

build a CNC machine to create parts for a :

Rep(St)rap

reprap build a rep(st)rap to build more repraps
+1 -Robotto- I would love to help make this! looks like fun!
+1 --CazH Would love to help build one, but doesn't have the space or money for one for him self.

or to win a prize prize of 80k$

LaserCutter

to cut paper or engrave stuff

think beef jerky bussiness cards

Candyfab

ummm candy...

Inkjet Hack

hack a Desktop inkjet printer to print with water on layers of gypsum/sugar to create full-3d models in gypsum

Embedded electronics and microcontrollers

Please note, that this not a thought through idea; it's just random thoughts. Please feel free to add your own (random) thoughts. Spet 10:08, 3 February 2010 (UTC)

I've had some basic experience with embedded electronics on a breadboard (or protoboard) and would like to take this a step further. This involves

  • designing and using PCBs
  • using and programming microcontrollers
  • using sensors
  • using IO-devices such as displays and serial connections
  • ...

Alarm clock

As an example I would like to create an alarm clock, which can show me the current outside temperature. Possible timesources include an RTC or the DCF77 signal from the Frankfurt atomic clocks.

What about just using the net freq of 50Hz? They adjust it every day so it is very accurate over 24 hours? Because the Frankfurt signal contains information such as date and daylight savings, the 50Hz does not. Besides, the 50Hz isn't exactly 50Hz as it varies with demand generally within 49.0Hz and 50.5Hz but the allowed tolerance is 47.5Hz to 51Hz. A crystal oscillator would be preferable to the "50Hz" signal :)

Other (long term) possibilities are

  • multiple sensors (think: wake me when the sun comes up, humidity sensors, multiple temperature sensors, wake me when I'm in a light sleep phase - think iphone+sleepcycle, etc.)
  • wireless sensor connectivity
  • storage and playback of sound bites as alarm signals
  • datalogging (think: how often and how much do I snooze)
  • (Remote) relays for turning on the coffee machine and/or computer
  • WiFi Connectivity for latest headlines, stock quotes, etc.
  • ...

Ultimate Emulator Arcade Machine

Looky here: http://www.koenigs.dk/mame/eng/index.htm I think it would be imba as hell to build one of these and make the ultimate arcade cabinet. We could even pimp it up with some hackaarhus grafix and everything. And would it be possible to make a Linux distro with a menu that lets you choose between the best emulators? They have the woodworking tools at Huset!

Bluetooth Cannon

Would it be possible to build a bluetooth cannon that could intrude on peoples cellphones and shoot hackaarhus logos? We could probably do a lot of fun things with that thing. I have not researched this, just a thought :)

Trash-up - The Game

I heard this great thing on Digital Planet about MIT tracking trash in N.Y. That made me think, that it could be fun to make some sort of game where we would place tags (I know this is a hurdle, but for the sake of the idea lets just say its possible) on consumer goods and put them back on the shelves. Each participant would then own a tagged object of her choice and we could think up some rules for example 'longest distance travelled' 'first consumed' 'longest life' 'longest time in one place' etc. We could even let the items tweet their location or something. Bill Thompson calls this thing a 'trash-up' - amazing! listen to the podcast here.

Great idea but wouldn´t it be intruding on peoples private lives ?

XML art bot crawler

You decide what it does - I just like the name :) Nevertheless: Would it be possible to make a program that crawled the Net, downloaded public XML files and remixed them in an artful way? Came to think of it when reading this amazing thing about memory: Borges - Funes the memorius

Heres a quote: He told me: I have more memories in myself alone than all men have had since the world was a world. And again: M y dreams are like your vigils. And again, toward dawn: My memory, sir, is like a garbage disposal.

I think there are, although it's surely been done before, some good potential in using the XML structure and representing it in new ways.

Horny tshirts for horny hackers

Would it be cool to make some oldschool merchandise? Like these tshirts or mugs or something? File:h_a_tshirt.png File:h_a_tshirt_1.png Notice the lobbywork for my new nameproposal ;)

How about a t-shirt like: "There are 10 types of people, those who understand binary and those who don't - HackAarhus" --Carlos 08:06, 2 March 2010 (UTC)

Nerd merrit badges

Nerd merrit badges make our own, give for completed workshops. Arduino-, Soldering-, Processing.org-, 3dfabrication merrit badges

If metal&plastic badges can be used, IT-politisk Forening have a really cool machine for producing these. Then we may just need to supply the paper prints and ask really nice :)

Could be as stickers?

The Most Useless Machine

How can we live without one of these?
The perfect reference to point at in the lab, every time we (mid hack) end up with something useless or broken. Because no matter what useless hack we may ever accomplish, it will always have more usages then this. And somehow I think you juuuust have to try it one more time :)
